Transfer estimates: fees, cut-off and business days
Two worked examples for SEPA / SWIFT Fee & Timing Estimator: inputs, calculations, rounding and the limits of the model.

Why this matters
The SEPA and SWIFT labels identify the entered transfer scenario; they do not load a bank tariff or a timetable. Sender, intermediary and recipient fees are separate inputs. The displayed duration is built from the reader’s minimum, maximum and cut-off delay.

Open the calculator: SEPA / SWIFT Fee & Timing Estimator. All figures below are hypothetical. CU denotes a consistent currency unit, not a named currency. Field and result names match the English calculator interface.
Example 1: the starting assumptions
Use a 1,000 CU transfer, a 5 CU sender fee, no other fees and an entered range of one to three business days. Here the sender fee increases the debit without reducing the recipient principal.
Entered fields: Payment rail: SEPA credit transfer · Transfer principal: 1000 (CU) · Sender fee: 5 (CU) · Estimated intermediary deductions: 0 (CU) · Estimated recipient fee: 0 (CU) · Entered minimum processing time: 1 (business days) · Entered maximum processing time: 3 (business days) · Additional wait before processing: 0 (business days)
Calculated results: Total entered fees: 5.00 CU · Assumed sender debit: 1,005.00 CU · Assumed recipient credit: 1,000.00 CU · Entered time scenario: 1–3 business days
- fees = 5 + 0 + 0 = 5 CU
- sender debit = 1,000 + 5 = 1,005 CU; recipient = 1,000 CU
- duration = (1 + 0) to (3 + 0) business days
Example 2: change the inputs
For a SWIFT-labelled scenario, enter sender, intermediary and recipient fees of 10, 15 and 3 CU. Enter two to five business days plus a one-day cut-off delay. These figures are examples, not standard SWIFT charges or service commitments.
Entered fields: Payment rail: SWIFT cross-border transfer · Transfer principal: 1000 (CU) · Sender fee: 10 (CU) · Estimated intermediary deductions: 15 (CU) · Estimated recipient fee: 3 (CU) · Entered minimum processing time: 2 (business days) · Entered maximum processing time: 5 (business days) · Additional wait before processing: 1 (business days)
Calculated results: Total entered fees: 28.00 CU · Assumed sender debit: 1,010.00 CU · Assumed recipient credit: 982.00 CU · Entered time scenario: 3–6 business days
- fees = 10 + 15 + 3 = 28 CU
- sender debit = 1,010 CU; recipient = 1,000 − 15 − 3 = 982 CU
- duration = (2 + 1) to (5 + 1) = 3–6 business days
What the result leaves out
The model does not look up holidays, compliance reviews, bank opening times, currency conversion or a live payment status. Actual fee allocation may differ from the simplified convention used here.
Arithmetic uses unrounded intermediate values; displayed numbers are rounded. These examples document the model, not a provider quote or an observed transaction.

Practical checklist
- Record the source, units and time of each input.
- Keep fees and principal in their stated units.
- Reproduce both examples before comparing other inputs.
- Read the stated limitations and current provider terms.
