Slot Volatility Illustrator

Two ribbons showing different levels of variation

For readers exploring how equal average returns can coexist with different payout variation. The model uses independent rounds and a two-outcome payout distribution.

Examples are hypothetical. CU = currency units. Use one consistent currency wherever CU appears. No live prices or provider data are fetched.

How to read the result

The profiles illustrate payout dispersion with an identical expected return; standard deviation is not a guaranteed outcome range. This model does not reproduce a named slot, jackpots, bonus rounds, bankroll depletion or a forecast of your next spin.

Formula

  1. For hit probability h and RTP fraction r, gross payout multiplier on a hit m = r/h; otherwise payout = 0.
  2. Mean net result per round = bet × (r−1). Variance per round = bet² × (r²/h − r²).
  3. For N independent rounds: mean net result = N × bet × (r−1); standard deviation = bet × sqrt(N × r² × (1/h−1)). A payout hit is not necessarily a net win.

Worked example

At 96% RTP, 1 CU and 1,000 rounds: hit probabilities 50%, 20%, 2% imply payouts 1.92×, 4.80×, 48.00×. All have mean net −40 CU; standard deviations are 30.36, 60.72 and 212.51 CU.
